The Story of Weaving Calm

Where It Began

The idea for Weaving Calm first began to take shape during the summer of 2019 when Amy McKnight traveled throughout Davidson County, North Carolina, hosting free weaving events at public libraries, museums, and community gathering spaces.

With a few freestanding looms and several small tabletop looms, she invited anyone curious to sit down and try weaving.

Something unexpected happened.

Even though participants could not take the cloth they created home with them, many returned again and again simply to experience the process.

A Common Thread

People from every background, different ages, professions, cultures, and viewpoints — sat at the looms together.

What they shared was simple: the quiet satisfaction of passing the shuttle back and forth and watching cloth slowly begin to form.

In those community spaces, Amy began to notice something deeper.

The appeal wasn’t only about creating cloth.

It was about what happened while people were weaving.

The Rhythm of the Loom

Weaving has a quiet rhythm.

Looms are prepared in advance. The atmosphere is quiet and welcoming. Guests simply sit down and begin.
